1 Snapshot on Sichuan Earthquake May 2008 – April 2009

2 On May 12, 2008, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8 shake Wenchuan County of Sichuan, causing many houses collapsed...

3 Many communities were left in ruins, collapsed buildings were everywhere.

4 At least 90,000 dead, 370,000 injured and about 50 million people affected.

5 Some victims lived in relief camps run by government or aid agencies.

6 Some victims repaired their houses with simple materials as temporary shelter.

7 Survivors need time to move out from their traumatized experience. Many children lost their parents.

8 CEDAR staff from Gansu and Hubei were sent to affected areas to provide emergency relief and rehabilitation in partnership with local churches.

14 Flour and cooking oil were delivered to over 2,500 households in Wen County, Gansu.

15 Tarpaulin sheets were delivered to victims as temporary shelter.

16 1,600 victims in the Mianyeung relief camp, Sichuan received daily necessities like tooth brush, towel.

17 130 poor households in Mianzhu City, Sichuan received cooking oil.

18 12 water pumps were provided to two villages enabling villagers to have access of clean water.

19 CEDAR supports the repair of an irrigation system to revive paddy cultivation.

20 Cotton quilt were delivered to 3,000 victims in Deyeung and Mianyeung City in Sichuan before the winter sets in.

21 Iron bins were also given to 5,000 victims for storing their harvest.

22 Subsidies were given to poor households with physically impaired member to rebuild their houses.

23 In partnership with one HK group, CEDAR sponsors psychological rehabilitation training to benefit local medical staff and teachers in Cheungdu City, Sichuan. Photo: Youth Foundation
