1 Name: John Cooper Class: English 4 Teacher: Ms. Saunders

2 Cake baking Enjoy cooking and everyone loves cake. Like cooking but not very good at it.

3  There is over 100 types and styles of cakes.  My research was the history of cakes and the design.  I learned the skills it takes to build and design a cake.

4  First cake made in Egypt around 1300’s.  Cakes began as flat pieces of bread with no icing.  In the 1400’s Great Britain discovered the cake and add dried fruit to it to make it taste sweeter.

5  First cake: Bottom layer was a vanilla cake. Top layer was a German chocolate cake. Icing was cream cheese and had a flower design.

6  Second cake: The cake was a devils food cake that I baked in a special pan shaped like a turkey. The icing was a butter cream icing that had food coloring in it and I decorated to look like a turkey.

9  Rachel Thomas  She has been baking cakes and other deserts for over 10 years

10  Taught me basic skills such as baking and design.  She told me how to do it and instructed that I did it properly.

11 Product  18hours total, 9 with mentor.  By research different recipes of cakes and then making the cakes my self helped me gain knowledge about cake making.

12 Obstacles  Deciding which cakes to make for my product.  Figuring out the proper way to make them, such as, the right temperature and how long to bake them.  Time management.

13 Facts  1. Cakes are used for different occasions such as, weddings, birthdays, or funerals.  2. You can make a cake from scratch or a mix from a box and it will look almost the same but taste different.  3. I really enjoy cake baking.
