1 Newton’s 2 nd Law of Motion

2 States that the force needed to move an object is equal to the product of that object’s mass and acceleration. Equation: F=ma Net force is the sum of all forces acting on an object. Some of these forces will be a negative number which will decrease the net force. Gravity and friction are two forces that will usually be negative.

3 Newton’s 2 nd Law of Motion Gravity is why we must consider the mass of an object. The more mass an object has, the more the pull of gravity makes it weigh. An object gains speed based on the size of net force. The greater the net force, the greater the object gains speed. An object also gains speed based on the mass of an object. The greater the mass, the slower the object gains speed.

4 Newton’s 2 nd Law of Motion Acceleration is a change in velocity in a given time period. However, opposing forces-friction, air pressure, and gravity- act to slow an object down. Deceleration, or negative acceleration, is slowing down an object.
