3 Team Leadership Model “ Indeed, we would argue that effective leadership processes represent perhaps the most critical factor in the success of organizational teams ” (Zaccaro, Rittman & Marks, 2001, p 452) “ Conversely, ineffective leadership often is seen as the primary reason teams fail ” (Stewart & Manz, 1995, p748) Team leadership can be performed by the team leader and/or shared by team members. Day, Gronn and Salas (2004) refer to this shared or distributed leadership as team leadership capacity.
