9 Allocation of Requirements from System to Element level Pre-Stage 1 Apr/12 System RR Element SRR Q4/12 (resource dependent) 1st allocation is science requirements, operations requirements (Instrument Requirements Review). Later allocations are extensibility requirements and non-functional requirements. System Level (SPDO/SPO) Element Level (WPCs) 1 2

12 Pre-Stage 1 : Planning Element CoDR-SRR Work  Purpose of Work o Planning next phase – to Element SRR  What needs to be done?  Which options are to be carried forward?  How much effort?  How much time?  What is the outcome to be presented at the SRR? o Preparation of Statement of Work to reach SRR.  Contract Phases and Milestones o Familiarisation with tasks and inputs o Analysis of input data, identify gaps o 1 st draft plan o Presentation and review o Decisions on how to handle gaps and missing information o Finalize plan o Final presentation, review and delivery.  Deliverables o Reports  Scope of requirements analysis for the element level.  Consolidation and recommendation of viable technical options  Architecture documents for viable options.  Outline of work to be done on requirements, and other items identified in the SEMP for the SRR level.  Identification of resources and time to complete actual work to SRR.  Preliminary estimate of work needed to complete detailed design.  Review of gaps or missing information needed to proceed. o Prepared Statement of Work for the period up to SRR.

15 Resources for Planning, Requirements Development, WBS, Stage 1 work  Pre-Stage 1 Planning (Nov11-Apr12)  Assuming 5-8 Elements  3 people/element from PrepSKA Lead Institutes => 15-24 persons for 5 months (75-120 PMs)  SPDO/SPO Domain specialists at 30% (5 persons) (8 PMs)  System Requirements Development (Nov11-Oct12)  SPO Domain specialists at 30% (5 people) (20 PMs)  Three additional System Engineers at SPO, assumed available immediately (36 PMs)  SPDO/SPO will need TBD assistance with specific tasks during the SRR preparation  Element level Requirements Development (Apr12-Mar13, PEP Table 2)  WPC s: 15 FTE/ WP on average (total: 90 FTEs)

16 Where are we, and what are we trying to achieve? Still at planning stages SPDO/SPO plan for process is solidifying Method of interaction with SPDO/SPO not yet established Key triggers: Appointment of Interim Director Possibly allows formation of consortia Site decision: Releases funding D-G appointed We establish a model for Australian participation We talk to international partners about the formation of potential consortia We be ready to go as soon as possible.
