Spring Term 2015 Personal, Social and Emotional Development (Getting on and falling out) Classroom rules - expectations Can make up when fallen out with a friend Knows when to say sorry if being unkind Work as part of a group, sharing and taking turns People who help us- cleaning teeth, cough & sneezes Physical Development Moving & handling Developing pincer grip Developing letter formation (zig zag & Curly caterpillar letters) Developing threading, weaving, cutting and tracing skills Developing throwing, catching and kicking skills Using their bodies to move in different ways and to move safely around the hall following the real PE Programme.. Health and Self care To dress and undress independently for PE To put on and fasten coat independently Communication and Language Listening & attention Joins in with story telling and anticipates key events and phrases in stories Maintain attention, concentrates and sits quietly during learning times Speaking & Understanding Speaking re-tell a past event in correct order Uses a range of tenses Uses language to re-create roles and experiences Understanding Understands use of objects (e.g. what do we use to cut things?) Able to follow a story without pictures or props They answer how and why questions in response to stories Literacy Reading Joining in with repeated refrains in stories Re-enacting/re-telling familiar stories with puppets and props Stories we will be reading are; jack and the Beanstalk, The Enormous Turnip, The Ginger Bread Man & Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Describing characters in familiar stories To learn the letter names by learning the alphabet song. Writing To experience and explore different purposes of writing by writing lists, captions, labels, cards, messages, diary writing, instructions. Mathematics Read, write, count & order numbers 0-20+ doubling magic beans– 1+1, 2+2, 3+3, 4+4, 5+5 Addition & subtraction of golden coins and leaves Tally charts – favourite foods Pictogram – favourite food Halving and sharing with the three bears Days of the week Counting on in 2s and 10s Estimating Understanding the World The world To learn to look after plants Planting beans, sunflowers and cress Technology developing their ability to operate simple equipment (eg listening centre) To know that information can be retrieved from a computer Complete a simple programme on the computer/ipad People and Communities RE – Stories people told The Lost Sheep The Good Samaritan Easter Story - Love Expressive Arts and Design Elton John – Your song / candle in the wind (cultural pathway) Learn the song ‘there was a Princess long ago’ Create a composition using different percussion to re-tell a story Observational drawings of sunflowers using pastels (cultural pathway) Use Brusho to create different effects Combining materials to make a giant Easter Bonnet parade! Easter holidays - Finish on Thursday 2 nd April – Back in school on Tuesday 20 th April May day bank holiday – Monday 4 th May 2015 For all other dates and events please refer to the school Newsletter or website THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD AT HOME Naming 2D shapes, counting /recognising numbers 1-20 and beyond and 1 more / less, adding, taking away objects Listen to your child read and practice words and sounds daily. Encourage your child to speak confidently in a sentence using the correct tense. Teach them to put their coat on and off, plus get dressed and undressed by themselves (this will help when getting changed for PE) Play “I spy” and read words in public places e.g. “danger” “Tesco” etc. Help them to write their full name and numbers, forming them correctly. We are aware that some children may be able to do many of these targets already. All children will be moved along the learning curve and level of play at their own rate *Remember to ask if you have any queries.
