7 Numeracy As a school we follow a Numeracy Framework which structures topics in 5 main blocks. These are: Block A – Counting, partitioning and calculating Block B – Securing number facts, understanding shape Block C – Data handling and measures Block D – Calculating, measuring and understanding shape Block E – Securing number facts, relationships and calculating These blocks are each split into 3 units which means the block is built upon supporting progress across the year. New curriculum has been incorporated into the lessons.

10 This term… New curriculum across all foundation subjects. Science: Properties and changes to materials Half Term project on famous scientists Archaeologists: - History - Geography - Art - DT Computing: E-safety, creating patterns and introduction to graphical modelling French, RE, PE, Music, PSHE and Citizenship SEAL

11 Homework All homework is set on a Monday and due the following Monday. It is displayed on Fronter – children need to log on and record their homework in their planner each week. Reading to be done every night and recorded and signed in planner. Times tables and number facts to be continually practised at home. Other homework.

13 Uniform Neat, full school uniform everyday. Grey/Black trousers/skirts (tights) White/red shirt/school polo shirt Red school jumper/school fleece Grey/red cardigans Black sensible shoes. Plain black trainers No jewellery/makeup School coloured headscarves School baseball caps only

14 Swimming Children need the correct kit: - one piece costume / trunks / shorts - towel - swimming hat - inhaler Taught in up to four groups depending on swimming ability Assessed by pool instructors Certificates awarded by school Swimming gala 5E and 5S – 1 st half terms 5O and 5P – 2 nd half terms

15 P.E. Kit Outdoor PE -A red Whitehall labelled t-shirt -A black pair of shorts or black jogging bottoms -Whitehall Fleece -Whitehall Cap -Suitable trainers Indoor PE - A red Whitehall labelled t-shirt -A black pair of shorts or leggings -Bare feet for tasks If you do not have a Whitehall red t-shirt (which can be obtained from the school office) then a plain red top is acceptable but no other colours and no football shirts! Please make sure that each child has their PE on a Monday and takes home on Friday.

17 Parents In Year 5 this year we would like to get you more involved with your child’s learning. You can help do this by: Best attendance possible Supporting with homework Liaising with teachers to work together ensuring your child reaches their full potential Liaising with teachers to find out about and sign your child up for extra curricular activities Volunteering to help with school trips & International Evening Sharing your talents and skills (possibly within lessons)
