but the new reform …

CLIL in Italy – teacher’s lacks In the primary schools each class mainly has only one teacher (so far) In the Secondary schools (upper and lower levels) all the teachers teach only one subject So it’s very difficult to find teachers with more than one competence, or better it’s practically impossible to find teachers with “certificated capabilities” to teach more than one subject

CLIL in Italy – teacher’s lacks The CLIL competences are internationally tested only by TESOL, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (as a module of TKT, Teaching Knowledge Test ) Venice University (Ca’ Foscari) is developing a new exam to certificate CLIL capabilities for italian teachers Others ask to the subject teachers the minimum of FCE certification

CLIL in Italy – Ministry’s lacks Officially the formal curriculums don’t include CLIL modules Actually the upper secondary schools have the possibility to modify the 10-20% of the curricula according to the school autonomy. The incoming Reform introducts CLIL in the fifth grades of Liceum and ITI which foresees the teaching of a subject through a foreign language.

CLIL in Italy So, some CLIL activities may be developed only if a school decides to use the autonomy space and finds –one foreign language teacher that has a particular knowledge of another subject and the corresponding subject teacher accept to work together –one subject teacher that has a particular knowledge of foreign language and his corresponding foreign language teacher team up to work with him

CLIL in Italy Without fixed common rules With/without the student consent With/without the parental consent With/without any formal recognition and limited economic incentive The co-working is accepted only for a limited period and with a small economic contribution based only on limited school funds reserved to the autonomy actions

CLIL in I.T.I.S. Zuccante First experiences on 2003 with Company simulation (mother tongue tutor) Mainly three pairs of team teachers (Electronics & English, IT & English and Math & English) for three or more months modules in final classes Many CLIL courses, locally and in Ireland/England Now a group of about 10 teachers is involved
