Complaints about the quizzes. 164Complaints about the quizzes. 164 –Complaints that the answer provided was graded incorrectly. –Comments about the MoAb module being irrelevant. –Many learners indicated that there are multiple right answers to some questions. –Double negative in a question. –Content – General 318 survey responses –IT TELL ME MUCH ABOUT THE ANIMAL WELFARE. –Modules have not held my interest at all, especially the ones regarding the different governing bodies involved in the IACUC, ie., PHS, AALAC etc. L.A.W. Course Criticisms

–Content – General –TOO MANY MOUSE CLICKS –More details on farm animal welfare training vs rodent models. –Some negative comments about some images. –Too long –Modules with less information/shorter paragraphs were more helpful. –Getting registered and starting the course was buggy and nonintuitive. –It is annoying that I get logged out after a certain amount of time. L.A.W. Course Criticisms

–Content – General – –I thought the course was well put together, but could have had a little more interaction. The modules held my attention fairly well. The software was easy to use. The quiz questions were well written and went with the information presented. – –The course was good. I didn;t have any problem with the web site. I didn't see any erros in the content. But I got bored about the legal issues. – –This is the first on line training course that I have taken and the thought of having to do so intimidated me. It turned out to be a very valuable training tool and I liked the immediate feed back on the correct answers. The only hard part was figuring out how to access a password as I am a volunteer community member and once I understood how to do that the rest of the course was easy to navigate. I am grateful for having taken this on line class. L.A.W. Course Criticisms

–Content – General – –The modules were very informative. Some of them I feel are too technical for staff that is not involved in protocol writing. I found them usefull as a review. – –They were very informative and the software was very easy to use. Very helpful! – –The material was presented in a way that way very easy to read and understand and important concepts were appropriately highlighted throughout the reading. The quiz questions were very reasonable in realtionship to the material. L.A.W. Course Criticisms

Lab Animal Welfare Course Survey Data 1-1-09 to 5-8-09

How many years have you been conducting studies with laboratory animals?

I think that the Internet is an appropriate tool to deliver basic instruction in the ethical conduct of research with animal subjects n=1685 Strongly disagree Strongly agree

The current course site presents the materials in a way that is easy for me to understand and learn. Strongly disagree Strongly agree

I would prefer a presentation model that would require the learner to actively participate in games, videos or other exercises designed to emphasize important concepts. Strongly disagree Strongly agree

Assuming a similar time commitment, would you prefer another vehicle for this mandated instruction?

Does your institution rely exclusively on the CITI Program to provide basic training in Lab Animal Welfare?

The presentation model used by CITI permits you to scroll through the content as if you were reading a book or a journal. Other web based models require that the learner click from "page to page" in order to read the material in smaller segments and interact with the software. Please provide us with some feedback regarding the current presentation model. I DO NOT like the current presentation model another approach should be implemented.2% The "page to page" is better because I could pause and reflect on important points in the content.6% I prefer the "page to page" approach with interactive games or activities to break up the text.6% I DO NOT recommend the "Page to Page" model as it would increase the time to complete the course.10% The materials presented in the course are new to me. I like the current presentation model.16% I am familiar with the content. The current approach permits an efficient review of the material.19% The current approach enabled me to read through the content as if I where reading a book or journal.41%

Although training in Laboratory Animal Welfare issues is mandated by the Federal government and by my institution, I believe that this training is really not very useful for new faculty and students? Strongly disagree Strongly agree 72% 16%
