Summary Total of 3 PCB’s 2 RFID modules (identical boards) These will be wireless and communicate with an Xbee chip using a built in antenna. 1 main (also includes an Xbee chip to receive)

Updated PSSCs 1. 1. An ability to detect a user based on RFID and determine which user has priority, displaying the user's identity on an LCD. 2. 2. An ability to adjust the light intensity to match a user’s settings through X10 protocol. 3. 3. An ability to adjust a television set or other HDMI device using CEC- HDMI protocol, to a user's preferred settings. (ON/OFF, Channel, Volume) 4. 4. An ability to unlock a door when an acceptable RFID is present. 5. 5. An ability to select/set preferred settings through an embedded web server and the ability to save the "light settings" with the press of a button.

General Layout Considerations The PCB will be mounted to the top of our box The ID-12 (RFID reader) will be mounted on the side closest to the box to allow for the best possible signal strength The taller components will then be on the opposite side (transformer, aluminum electrolytic caps, external port connections) The traces for the electric strike circuit will be slightly larger as there will be a load of 400 mA when in use. The PLIX requires an oscillator so it will need to be in close proximity to the IC and have the proper load capacitors as close as possible as well.

Micro Layout Considerations Bulk cap on the power supply (4.7uF) as close to the IC supply pins as possible The internal voltage regulator needs a capacitor (10uF) from the Vcap pin to ground with low-esr (1 ohm) Vref+ and Vref- need to be connected to Vdd and Vss respectively for use of the ADC Power and ground should route to the decoupling caps prior to the pins of the micro Decoupling caps should be within one-quarter inch of the power pins and if possible, on the same side of the board Will be placed close to the port connections.

Power Supply Layout Considerations Analog ground for the ambient light sensor circuit will need to be kept separate from the digital ground for everything else A ground plane will be used near the power supply for two reasons 1) to minimize the inductance of the ground return 2) to provide a heat sink for the regulator A star grounding system from the ground plane will be used as much as possible
