14 Many millions of Jews ended up in concentration camps where they were put to work, often making items that would benefit the German war machine. Jews were forced to give up their belongings and were made to wear identification badges and armbands. The armband above belonged to a worker in one of the largest camps that the Nazis created after 1939. Can you work out which camp this was? Photograph courtesy of Des Quinn

15 Buna was the largest sub-camp within the Auschwitz complex. By 1944 there were 10,000 inmates in the camp who were put to work by the S.S. The majority of the workers were Jewish and many died from starvation, from being over-worked or executed.
