5  Special cell division used to make gametes or sex cells (egg and sperm)  “double mitosis” : cell divides twice but the DNA only replicates once.  Starts with 1 parent  4 daughter cells  1 cell (46 chromosomes)  4 cells (23 chromosomes each)

6  Diploid (2n)- regular cells; contain the full DNA.  body cells = 46 chromosomes  made by mitosis.  Haploid (n)- sex cells or gametes; contain half of the DNA.  Sperm and egg = 23 chromosomes  made by meiosis.
