Objective: Compare and contrast the process of mitosis with meiosis.

Special cell division used to make gametes or sex cells (egg and sperm) “double mitosis” : cell divides twice but the DNA only replicates once. Starts with 1 parent 4 daughter cells 1 cell (46 chromosomes) 4 cells (23 chromosomes each)

Diploid (2n)- regular cells; contain the full DNA. body cells = 46 chromosomes made by mitosis. Haploid (n)- sex cells or gametes; contain half of the DNA. Sperm and egg = 23 chromosomes made by meiosis.
