Gas Well Deliquification Workshop Sheraton Hotel, Denver, Colorado February 22 - 25, 2015 Gas Well Deliquification Breakout Session Compression and Facilities Troubleshooting and Optimization Larry Harms Jim Hacksma

2015 Gas Well Workshop 2 Breakout Session Details Session Purpose Number of Attendees –Operating Companies - 7 –Service/Supply Companies - 0 –Academia – 1 –Consultant - 1 Duration of Session – 1.25 hrs. February 24, 2015

2015 Gas Well Workshop3 What causes you the most loss of production on Compression/Facilities Rental machines and vendor maintenance on these (lack of inventory, response, cannot get good mechanics) Work on relationship and understanding of objectives Use incentives to align objectives/success Downtime and improper configuration downhole poor boy conventional, etc. – specific problem on well loading up when compression goes down Solution is to shut in well when compressor goes down (automatically best) to prevent liquid loading Best practice on flowing, WHC, foamer wells is to shut wells in before they reach critical rate February 24, 2015

2015 Gas Well Workshop4 What causes you the most loss of production on Compression/Facilities Salt and how to deal with it in facilities – This occurs when there is a small amount of water and a drop in pressure drop to bring water into vapor phase Comes from well, In all equipment downstream of the production separator, salt indicates a separation problem, improve separation by looking at internals and ensuring they are working and cleaning out solids Inject fresh water if necessary Design without understanding surface constraints Need to take an integrated holistic approach to design looking at wells/equipment upstream and downstream through pipeline/gatherer, Use Integrated Prod. Model February 24, 2015

2015 Gas Well Workshop5 What causes you the most loss of production on Compression/Facilities Temperature swings and down time (freezing fuel gas, etc.) Need to watch weather and prepare for swing Designs many times not sophisticated enough from process engineering standpoint to optimize pressure drop points and free water dropout and collection Good intentions to make changes before next winter need to be followed up/executed Hot weather can cause problems too Compressors go down on low suction Properly operating recycle control valve and compressor setup will prevent Consider RPM control to help prevent this and optimize compressor operation and fuel gas February 24, 2015

2015 Gas Well Workshop6 How do you Optimize your Compression/Facilities? How to sell a change like the Stay in the “Box” configuration method (SPE 142293) for reciprocating compressors Understand the subject, approach and the benefits Consult author Identify real examples where benefit will be likely and measurable Look for allies Propose/ Conduct Test Implement and upscale based on success February 24, 2015

7 Summary Key Learings Should This Session Be Repeated in the Future February 24, 2015 2015 Gas Well Workshop
