Pre-game The pre-game and post-game stories are often on TV before the newspaper can print anything, so the pre-game is where the written story does its best work. Think news story. What goes into the story? – History, rivalries – Physical condition of the team – Starting line-ups – Comparison of each team’s record – Comments on styles of play – Significance of the game (world championship?) – Analysis of individual Pre-game article: Interview both competitors. Look for a “story” Preview the game Minimum 300 words. Due by the end of class on Thursday!!!

Game The true test of the sports writer – you must have detailed notes about plays and action. – Have a note-taking system – Turning points, critical plays – Points scored, by whom – Sidelines, officials, and crowd reactions BE OBJECTIVE!

Post-Game Feature story Include the following – Interviews (players, coaches, officials & fans) – Season/ game/ series wrap up stories – “Color Stories” (analysis of confusing events and calls or interpretations of rules by officials).

Rules of paper football You will play two 4 minute halves. Each half starts with a kickoff -wherever the football lands is where the opposing player starts with the football If any part of the football is hanging off of the table on the kickoff, the kicking team is rewarded 6 points. No “wind” rule. A touchdown is awarded when the offensive player flicks the football three times or less and the football is still on the table hanging over the edge. ( 3 flicks each)

Rules of paper football If an offensive player flicks the football off the table three times in a row, the opposing player will get the opportunity to kick a field goal.
