Soccer or Football? Soccer is known as football throughout most of the world. In North America, however, the word soccer is used to avoid confusion with American football as played in the National Football

HISTORY Soccer is one of the oldest sports in the world.
No one is quite sure when or where it started. China was the first country to actually write about a game that involved kicking a round object into a goal, and that game was played more than 4,000 years ago! The game was called tsu chu, and it was played for the emperor's birthday.

Soccer was considered as a violent sport, so it was banned in the UK for more than 300 years.
Balls were not exactly round when the first club and country matches took place. A pig’s bladder was blown up like a balloon, tied at the ends and placed inside a leather case, affording it an egg shape. The discovery of Indian rubber in the 1860s gave the ball greater roundness.

Men's soccer first appeared in the 1900
Olympic Games in Paris, France, his team representing Great Britain won the gold medal that year, followed by France with silver
