6 Analyzing & measuring risks - BRR & FRR System Basel II recommends a two-tier rating system – one that uses BRR- Borrower Risk Rating and FRR – Facility Risk Rating. Involves qualitative and quantitative evaluation.

7 A Proven Working Model: SB’s BRR System A tool to systematically assess the risk factors involved in a business applying for a loan. There are clear guidelines & definition of terms. Risk assessment is made on the customer, and then a BRR rating is computed based on the assessment. Low risk=low probability of default, while high risk = high probability of default.

8 SB’s Model The BRR recommended by SBC makes use of CAMP analysis. CAMP stands for Cash, Management, Marketing and Production. A scale of 10 is used, where 1 means very low risks and 10 is very high risk and ripe for collection.

9 SB’s Model Administration: Experience of owners / management > more than 15 years 5 >15 but not less than 5 years 3 > 5 years 0 5 Owner’s health, age & succession > 50 y/o with succession plan 5 > 50 y/o with no succession plan 3 <50 y/o with succession plan 3 w/ health concerns & succession plan 3 <50 y/o with no succession plan 0 w/ health concerns, no succession 0 5
