ON FRIDAY 27th OF JANUARY 2006 SOME STUDENTS WENT TO AN OLD FACTORY CHANGED INTO A THEATRE, CALLED “TEATRO INDIA”, “INDIA THEATRE”. AFTER SEEING A VIDEO ABOUT THE IMMIGRANTS, WE RECEIVED AN IDENTITY CARD AND WE HAD TO INTERPRET THE ROLE OF SOME IMMIGRANTS WHO HAD TO FACE MANY TROUBLES.

The route - the globe area I, Luca, personified Andrei, a sixteen-year-old boy who came from Moldavia. As soon as he arrived at the Italian border, Andrei met two guards who let him pass rudely. He worked for a living and found a job as windscreen-washer near the main street traffic lights but his boss took the 70% of the money he earned. When the police officers found him, they realised that he didn’t have the residence permit so they took him to prison. When they released him he went to a centre for immigrants. After having fled, he got back to the police officers. They led him to prison, where the guard gave him the expulsion certificate. His “Italian dream” had vanished.

ASSIF I, Ràul, personified Assif, a twenty-year-old boy who came from Chittagon, in Bangladesh. One day, while he was working in his town, for a job with a very low salary, Chittagon was damaged by a hurricane. His house was destroyed and his parents died. So Assif decided to go to Italy to start a new life. It was a cold morning and he was at the border. There was a man who explained him how to go to Italy, spending almost nothing: by sea.

Assif arrived at the harbour and another man told him to hide under some blankets inside a boat. He was with other people: men, women and children. The journey was long and hard. When they arrived on the Italian coast, a policeman took them to the immigration centre for the passport and a permit. Meanwhile Assif accepted a casual job: selling flowers but without success. After a few weeks the police officer told him that it was impossible to give him a permit. Assif had to go back to his country.

I, Kathryn, personified Kio, a nineteen-year-old girl who came from the south of China, a very poor country, where she lived with her family. Her husband had already left for Italy to find his fortune. Kio decided to join him with her three-year-old son. She was able to enter Italy under family reunification motives and avoid jailing due to the fact that her son could not be left alone.

She found work at a drycleaners’ for a few euros a month, just enough to support herself and her son. Not long afterwards she was sent away due to health reasons, and at the same time her husband told her she could no longer stay with him. But then luck turned her way: she met a lawyer who gave her a decent job, and this meant she was finally able to obtain the sojourn permit that had been denied her until then.

I, Camilla, personified Lorena, a twenty-four-year-old girl who came from Rio Negro, in Colombia. She had been working in a National Cooperation firm for a while but for some reasons she finished in the list of people sentenced to death.

One day, thanks to a friend, she had the opportunity to go to Italy, but when Lorena arrived at Rome the police arrested her because of pushing drugs. Luckily Lorena has been released and the police sent her to ask for politic shelter but the officers didn’t believe her. So she went to a lawyer asking for the residence permit and at the same time she found a concealed job in a laundry. At last she didn’t obtain the permit..
