Logging in from Off-Campus When logging in from off-campus, you will need a username and password. Username: Last name Password: 1 st 4 of your last name, 1 st four of your first name, last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.

Look for the Call Number This tells you where the book is on the shelf.

Enter search terms. Click on the page number to go to the page. Enter terms and click magnifying glass Click to go to page

Click on Detailed Record to get the information to write the citation. Click here Use this information to create your citation.

Remember the citation information! Get the Detailed Record or use the Cite feature under Tools. Use Easy Bib from the Library home page. Format your citations using the style designated by your teacher. – Turabian/Chicago – MLA – APA

Why Use a Database? Anyone can create an internet site. – It can be true. – It can be fake. You have to verify internet information. – Who is the author? – Does the site want to provide information, or sell something? – When was it last updated?

Databases Provide thousands of articles from journals, newspapers, or books. The information is more accurate. Many articles are peer-reviewed. Your instructor prefers database articles to internet sites.

If the article is a PDF…. The article has been scanned into the database and will appear the same as it appears in the print journal. You will need to get the Detailed Record for the citation information.

Using EasyBib On the Library home page, scroll down to see Easy Bib on the right side. Click on this.

Select a tab If you are using a book source, click the tab for Book. If you are using a database, click the tab for Databases. – Use the drop down box to select the type of database. – In most instances, this will be Article published by database (pick this if unsure)

Add Citations If you create several citations at a time, EasyBib will alphabetize them as you go. Then, you can copy and paste them to your Works Cited page.

More about Citations Since you are using Turabian/Chicago, your paper will contain either – Footnotes, or – Endnotes – Ask your instructor which to use

Citations Each time you use someone else’s words or ideas, you must provide a citation to give credit to that person. As you type your paper, you will make this notation by using a raised number at the end of the information used. For each citation, you will provide a corresponding bibliography.
