1 Getting Started with TI-Interactive

2 TI-Interactive TI-Interactive can be used to create a variety of graphs. Scatter Plots, Line Plots, Histograms, Modified Box Plots, Regular Box Plots, Normal Probability Plot, and Pie Charts. Interactive also allows you to copy and paste graphs into a word processing document.

3 Basic Graphing To graph a function in TI-Interactive select the graph tool on the tool bar; the icon look like a parabola.

4 Basic Graphing Once you have selected Graph feature define your function and click the checkbox or press enter. To change the style or weight of the line select the colored area next to your function.

5 Line Styles Style allows you change from a solid to a dotted or dashed line you can also change weight and color of the line.

6 Animation There are three different types of animation. Path traces in the line. Symbol shows the path of a point on the function then draws in the function. Path and Symbols is the combination.

7 Shading Allows you to shade above or below the function. Change the color of the shading. Shading Style adds texture.

8 Tracing Trace feature shows order pairs that are solutions to the function. Trace step permits you to change the increments of the x-step.

9 Format Menus Windows: Is one of the places where you can change the dimensions of the window. Animate: Allow you to change the speed and draw the type of your animation. Axis: Let you change the axis style and the x and y interval. Trace allows you to change the tracing style. Grid allows you to change the color weight and grid style. Label is where you add a title to the graph and where you can define the vertical and horizontal axis.

10 Table Table feature inserts a table of values for the defined function(s) into the Interactive documents. Remember that in Interactive you need to paste back into the document

11 Inserting Graphs onto a Word Document TI-interactive graphs can be copied and pasted into a Word document but the graphic is no longer an “active” graph. After a graph has been created using Interactive it has to be pasted into the Interactive document before being transferred to Word. Once the graph is graph is in Interactive you can copy and paste it back into your Word document

12 Analyzing Data using TI- Interactive TI-Interactive recognizes numerical. To enter data use the List icon on the tool bar: Enter your data into L 1 − L 6 or select an unnamed list Naming or renaming list is done by double clicking on a list and entering the new name or changing an existing one.

13 Creating Circle (Pie) Chart Click on the List Icon Enter your data into L 1 or enter your categorical data into L 1 and the numerical data into L 2 then paste your lists back into Interactive. But numerical data is all that is required to create a Pie Chart.

14 Categorical may be entered. It will not be displayed on the graph but can be seen in the table. After your data is entered into your lists the lists use this icon insert the data back into Interactive Once the data is in Interactive it can be analyzed.

15 Graphing Data To analyze your data select Scatter Plots using the drop down menu next to the graph icon.

16 Graphing Data To select the Stat Plot Style click on the plot and select your plot form the menu

17 Graphing Data To view your graph enter the name of the list(s) where the data is located Depending on the type of graph you may need to adjust the window to view the graph

18 Using Math Box to define variables and solve equations Math Box can be used to assign a value to a variable for example m and b in an linear equation and how they effect the function To assign a value to m and b click on the Math Box icon in the toolbar

19 Using Math Box to define variables Next select the variable that you would like to manipulate, then click on the Math Box icon A calculator and a math box will appear in your document type in the variable you selected then select the equal sign located in the bottom left hand corner of the calculator then assign the variable a value each variable needs to have its own box

20 Using Math Box to define variables Define m = 1 then define b = 0 remember each variable must be defined in a separate math box After the defining the variable the can be enter in to a function this can be done by clicking on the graph icon and inserting m and b in to the function y=mx+b Interactive does not understand implied multiplication so * is necessary

21 Using Math Box to define variables After defining your variable and pasted the graph back into Interactive To manipulate the function double click on the math box which contains the variable you wish to manipulate the graph by changing m or b the graphs automatically changes

22 Using Math Box to solve equations Define the equation you would like to solve in math but use the key boards equal sign 2x+2=10 then press enter Interactive insert the multiplication automatically To solve select ANS (answer form the math Palette subtract 2 and press enter select ANS again and divide by 2 and hit enter
