31
5 - 31 IPS MeteoStar February 22, 2007 HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE Rough Timing Estimates Are That It Will Take About One Minute To Load A Month’s Worth Of Data From Four Sites This Varies Depending Upon The Network Load And Number Of Users How Do I Make It Load Faster? –Select Fewer Sites And/Or Parameters Let’s Assume You Pick A Week’s Worth Of 5-Minute Data. For A Single Site, This Amounts To Just Over 10,000 Separate Data Points. Associated With Each Data Point Are A Number Of Flags And Other Related Data That Must Also Be Retrieved. The More Data Points You Request, The Longer It Takes. –Select A Shorter Time Span Let’s Use The Same Example Of A Week’s Worth Of 5-Minute Data With Just Over 10,000 Separate Data Points. A Month’s Worth Of Data For The Same Site Has Over 43,000 Separate Data Points. Multiple This By 4 Sites (Or Parameters) And That’s A Lot Of Data. –Look At Hourly Averages Rather Than 5-Minute Data If You Can Look At Hourly Averages, The Amount Of Data That Must Be Transferred Is Reduced By A Factor Of 12. That Means That Hourly Averages Will Usually Load About 10 Times Faster Than The Corresponding 5-Minute Data.
32
5 - 32 IPS MeteoStar February 22, 2007 MANUAL VALIDATION WINDOW Activate Panel Vertical Scroll Controls Horizontal Scroll Controls Time Zone Select Status Information Pull-Down Menus
33

34
5 - 34 IPS MeteoStar February 22, 2007 STATUS INFORMATION Information About Each Data Point Is Displayed At The Bottom Of The Window The Information Displayed Is Dynamic And Is Based On The Data Point Located Under The Cursor Available Information Includes: –Date And Time Sample Was Collected –Sample Value In Engineering Units –EPA Data Flag –The Slope And Intercept Applied To The Measured Voltages –Whether Or Not The Data Point Has Been Validated (Two Indicators) –Whether Or Not There Are Any Validator Notes Attached To The Data There Are Also Data Entry Areas For Manually Entered Slopes And Intercepts
35
5 - 35 IPS MeteoStar February 22, 2007 NOW WHAT DO I DO? The Data Is Displayed, Now What? Cals, Spans, And Other Hiccups Are Highly Visible Missing Data Displays As Light Purple Bands That Go From The Top To The Bottom Of The Graph Move The Cursor Over The Data Curve And Watch The Bottom Of The Window –The Small Windows At The Bottom Of The Window Dynamically Update As The Cursor Moves Over Data Points –You Can See The Date And Time The Sample Was Collected, The Parameter Value In Engineering Units, The Data Flag Value, Whether Or Not The Data Has Been Validated, Whether Or Not There Are Validator Notes, And For 5- Minute Data, The Slope And Intercept Applied To The Data –Hourly Data Always Has A Slope Of 1 And An Intercept Of 0 You Can View The Data, But You Cannot Change It Without A Username And Password That Have Validation Privileges
36
5 - 36 IPS MeteoStar February 22, 2007 NOT ENOUGH DETAIL IN CURVES This Is Caused By Huge Amounts Of Data How Do I Get More Detail In My Curves? –Make Sure The Manual Validation Window Is Maximized This Is The Best Starting Point. At This Point, Monitor Resolution Is Going To Limit You. –Select Fewer Sites And/Or Parameters The Manual Validation Window Is A Fixed Size. The More Parameters You Request To Display, The Smaller The Resulting Curves Become - Resulting In Loss Of Vertical Detail. Selecting One Parameter At One Site Gives The Best Vertical Detail. –Select A Shorter Time Span Once Again, The Longer The Time Span, The More Data There Is To Display. Selecting One Day Versus One Week Will Result In 7 Times The Horizontal Detail. –Use The Manual Validation Zoom Features By Zooming In On The Data, You Can Increase Either Vertical Or Horizontal Detail. Zoom Works Best When You Have Selected One Parameter At One Site. You Are Limited By The Display Resolution Of Your Monitor - Period.
37
