4 English Proverbs 1.When Rome, do as the Romans do. 2. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. 3. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. 4. No man is an island.

5 English Proverbs 1.People who live in a glass house should not throw stones. 2. Birds of a feather flock together. 3. There’s no such thing as a free lunch. 4. The early bird catches the worm.

6 English Proverbs 1.A watched pot never boils. 2.Beggars can’t be choosers. 3. Actions speak louder than words. 4. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

7 English Proverbs 1.Too many cooks spoil the broth. 2. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. 3. If you can’t beat them, join them. 4. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

8 Book Interviews I’ll call you up one at a time to talk about your book You can bring notes If you have your book, please bring it up! If not, that’s ok too. Interviews are ~3-5 minutes

9 Make your own Battleship Game (example, injury battleship game) Groups of 2 or 3 Decide your focus (vocab or grammar) Put words/sentences into chart Important points: Make sure each possible sentence is grammatically correct. Decide how students will say “Hit” and “Miss” Decide how long each conversation will last Decide how many boats

10 Discussion What are the benefits of this activity? What are the limitations of this activity? How could you use this activity in your class?

11 Go Fish (2-6+ students) Traditionally played with a deck of cards Your goal is to get all of one kind Each person starts with 5 cards Look at your deck and decide which card you want to get Ask a person in your group for the card If she has it, take it (she If she doesn’t have it, go fish! (draw from the pile)
