Strategies for rabi 2015-16 Main crops in Rabi are: o Wheat o Gram, Lentil o Rapeseed & Mustard o Rabi maize, jowar

o Region specific crop planning – taking into account moisture availability. o Pre-positioning of Inputs: Seeds, bio-agents/ agro- chemicals, soil amendments- lime, gypsum, fertilizers, micro-nutrients. o Moisture conservation & timely sowing :Laser land leveller, zero till seed drill, rotavator, happy seeder. o Focus on rice fallow area for sowing pulses and oilseeds. o Promotion of relay cropping / intercropping: To enhance the production and profitability. o Area specific application of micronutrients – sulphur, molybdenum, zinc, boron, etc o Region specific crop planning – taking into account moisture availability. o Pre-positioning of Inputs: Seeds, bio-agents/ agro- chemicals, soil amendments- lime, gypsum, fertilizers, micro-nutrients. o Moisture conservation & timely sowing :Laser land leveller, zero till seed drill, rotavator, happy seeder. o Focus on rice fallow area for sowing pulses and oilseeds. o Promotion of relay cropping / intercropping: To enhance the production and profitability. o Area specific application of micronutrients – sulphur, molybdenum, zinc, boron, etc Strategies for rabi 2015-16

New initiatives for rabi 2015-16 o Additional area coverage in rabi and summer pulses under NFSM. o Additional area coverage in rabi oilseeds under NMOOP. o Intercropping of pulses, oilseeds and coarse grains. o Pulses and oilseeds cultivation in rice fallow areas under BGREI o Focus on summer moong o Pulses and oilseeds demonstrations by KVKs throughout the country. o Higher level seed subsidy for replanting where crops damaged occurred during kharif season o Additional area coverage in rabi and summer pulses under NFSM. o Additional area coverage in rabi oilseeds under NMOOP. o Intercropping of pulses, oilseeds and coarse grains. o Pulses and oilseeds cultivation in rice fallow areas under BGREI o Focus on summer moong o Pulses and oilseeds demonstrations by KVKs throughout the country. o Higher level seed subsidy for replanting where crops damaged occurred during kharif season

Potential of pulses & oilseeds in rice fallows o About 8 million ha land remains fallow after paddy harvest in Eastern States. o Lentil, chickpea and lathyrus among pulses can be sown. o Mustard, safflower and linseed among oilseeds can be sown. o Identification of potential districts with large area of rice fallows. o Availability of seeds of suitable varieties. o Use of natural resources like tank/watersheds for providing life saving irrigation. o Pooling of resources from NFSM, NMOOP, ATMA, RKVY and schemes MNREGA. o Motivating large number of farmers in a village to take up cultivation.
20
Specific issues o Yellow rust & karnal bunt: Each state should have strategy to manage these diseases. o Enforcement of seed certification standards : wheat karnal bunt. o Promotion seed production during off season to make up the deficiency.
