Learning Objectives To understand key ideas for improvisation such as accepting others’ suggestions and building on them. To develop confidence. To have a supportive and cooperative attitude towards the group.

 What is improvisation?  What do you need in order to be successful at improvisation?  Acceptance  Participation  Creativity  Focus

 As a group we will tell a story around the drama circle, one sentence per person.  Aims:  To accept and build on each persons idea.  Really try to build previous ideas into your contribution to make the story flow.

 One volunteer sits in the centre of the circle.  The goal is to make the person laugh by saying “I love you honey but I just can’t smile!”  The person in the middle must reply with “I love you too”.  Think about imaginative use of voice and gesture.  If you laugh when trying to make the central person laugh you must sit in the centre.  No touching!

 In groups of 4/5;  You will each be given a television genre (EG. hospital drama, soap opera, cop drama, adverts, cookery show, DIY homes show).  Very quickly thought shower ideas for each genre.  You have 3 minutes to plan what you might do.  The teacher will then flick between different TV channels.  You must stop and start depending on which channel is being watched.

 What do you need in order to be successful at improvisation?  Acceptance  Participation  Creativity  Focus

 In pairs;  OPENING LINE: “You’re wearing my socks.”  One minute to create a short dialogue.  You now have one minute to add on the ending line:  ENDING LINE: “But the sandwich belonged to me.”

 On whiteboards:  Write the numbers 1 to 3.  Think back to today's lesson and write down who you think the top 3 improvisers in the class are.  What was it that they did successfully?
