Grace Fellowship Church Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard www.GraceDoctrine.org Thursday, March 28, 2013

1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen.

The Importance of the Seven Sayings of Jesus Christ while on the Cross.

1st Phrase Luke 23:34, “But Jesus was saying, ‘Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing’.”

He said this regarding everyone involved in His crucifixion, which sums up the entire reason for the Cross, that our sins would be forgiven.

Forgiveness of Sin is the reason for the crucifixion as promised by God in Jer 31:34; Rom 5:8.

Jer 31:34, “…. for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

Rom 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own impersonal unconditional love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died (spiritually) for us.”

Forgiveness of sin is the attitude we must have towards repentant believers. Mat 18:21; Luke 17:3

Heb 12:3, “For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart.”

This type of love does not try to get people back for hurting you. It does not seek to gain revenge. It is patient, it is kind, and will endure all types of suffering, 1 Cor 13:4-7.

2nd Phrase Luke 23:43, “Truly, I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”

As a result of the thief’s non- meritorious act of faith in Jesus as the Christ, He promised him that they would be reunited in Paradise that very day.

Old Testament Believers Unbelievers throughout history until the Great White Throne Judgement Old Testament Saints upon their death waited in Paradise Old and New Testament unbelievers go here upon their death. Luke 16:19-31; Eph 4:8

Old Testament Believers Unbelievers throughout history until the Great White Throne Judgement Taken to Heaven at Christ’s triumphal procession! Old and New Testament unbelievers go here upon their death.

Unbelievers throughout history until the Great White Throne Judgement Old and New Testament unbelievers go here upon their death.

Believers who die today go directly to Heaven; as will the Rapture generation, 1 Cor 13:2; 2 Cor 12:4; Phil 1:23; Rev 2:7.

When our Lord died physically His human soul went into Hades to the compartment of Paradise, Acts 2:27, 31; Eph. 4:9.

3rd Phrase John 19:25-27. Jesus kept every detail of the Law as the perfect sacrifice; He was without spot or blemish.

He was careful to keep every point of the Mosaic Law which He was fulfilling down to the very stroke, Mat 5:17.

Just as we are to be careful in our lives to perceive, metabolize and apply Bible Doctrine on a daily basis, Eph 5:15-17; 2 Tim 2:14-26, and walk in it. Cf. Gal 6:2.

Gal 6:2, “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”

4th Phrase Mark 15:34, “And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’ which is translated, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’”

Jesus received the judgment and penalty for our sins which was separation from the Father in His humanity.

2 Cor 5:21, “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Cf. Psa 22:1: Rom 5:12-20; 6:2, 10.

Rom 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own impersonal unconditional love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died (spiritually) for us.”

5th Phrase John 19:28, “After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, ‘I am thirsty’.” Cf. Psa 69:21

By emphasizing His humanity it tells us that it was His humanity that paid the penalty for our sins, not His deity, because deity can have no relation with sin, nor suffer separation from God.

6th Phrase John 19:30, “When Jesus therefore had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And He bowed His head, and gave up His human spirit.”

This phrase indicates that the Plan of the Father for the forgiveness of sins for the entire world was now complete.

Heb 9:14, “How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

7th Phrase Luke 23:46, “And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, ‘Father, into Your hands I commit My (human) spirit.” And having said this, He breathed His last.” Cf. Mat 27:50 and Mark 15:37; Luke 23:45.

Here the Lord Jesus Christ died voluntarily, John 10:17- 18, entrusting His eternal human spirit to God the Father, as also prophesized in Psa 31:1-5.

Upon giving up His spirit, His spirit went into the 3rd heaven, (God’s throne room), the body went into the grave, Mat 12:40; 27:57-66; Mark 15:42-47; Luke 23:50-55; John 19:38- 42, and His soul went down to Hades, Acts 2:27, 31; Eph. 4:9, until the time of His resurrection three days later.

The dividing barrier of sin that stood between God and man has been torn down, signified by the veil in the temple being torn in two. Mat 27:51; Mark 15:38; Luke 23:45
