3 KITCHEN TODAY Modern kitchen design has improved partly as a result of ergonomic research. Functionality is important. Kitchens are larger and have more cabinets;

4 Considerations/1 ASSESSMENT STAGE Storage space requirements: whether your kitchen will be self contained or part of a more open area that includes a dining room or bar, Other activities that the kitchen will be used for Estimation of how many years you should expect to use the kitchen.

5 Considerations/2 LAYOUTS AND FLOOR PLANS Whether your kitchen design will follow one of several traditional layouts. Taking into account which of these layouts will most effectively fit the space.

6 Types of kitchen designs ◦ single line layout utilizing just one wall ◦ the L-shape design, ◦ the U-shape design, ◦ an island layout in which there is a central workstation at which most cooking functions are performed.

7 LIGHTING Lighting is a central element of your plan. Skylights that draw in natural lighting can enhance the feeling of comfort inside a kitchen. A single overhead light = small kitchen area. Additional light sources = larger designs /like task lighting over the areas of food preparation/. Lighting beneath your cabinets= can help to illuminate darkened areas.

8 WORK TRIANGLE The work triangle ◦ This term refers to the placement of your cooking appliances, sink and refrigerator. ◦ the ideal placement of these three kitchen elements should be: ◦ no more than two arm spans from each other while also being placed far enough from each other to avoid being cramped.

9 FLOORING The choice of flooring material should b naturally into the overall style of your kitchen. Functional properties of the kitchen flooring: Linoleum: durable, easily installed and available in a number of designs, Terracotta or ceramic tiles: durable, aesthetic, suitable for floor heating. Cork: softer could be warn out easily. Hardwood: aesthetic durable, available in a number of designs but expensive.

10 STORAGE Deep Drawers for pots and pans recycling centers large enough to accommodate recyclables, garbage, and organic waste vertical Tray Dividers Cutlery trays - organizers. You can also create shallow drawers / which are fabulous for large trays and platters/.

11 CABINETS Kitchen cabinets are the built-in furniture installed in many kitchens for storage of food, cooking equipment……

12 CABINET´S PARTS Cabinet faces: Solid wood for cabinet parts, including bases, frames, doors, and sides. Cabinet body: The cabinet carcase is usually made from plywood for flat sections that do not need to be shaped Cabinet frames and doors: may be made from : solid woodsolid wood or hardwoodhardwood fiberboardfiberboard medium density (MDF) plywoodplywood or a combination The surface may include lamination or a surface coating over these core materials.

13 WORKTOPS OR COUNTERTOP Usually refers to a horizontal work surface in kitchens or other food preparation areas. It is frequently installed upon and supported by cabinets. It may be constructed of various materials with different attributes of functionality, durability, and aesthetics.
