1 USING WORD ‘07 TO CREATE A WORKS CITED/BIBLIOGRAPHY

2 Getting Started  Log on to the network  Open a blank word document (or the one you’re already working with)  Give the new document a name and save it in your H drive

3 Setting up your citations Click on the Reference tab in the tool ribbon (at the top of the document)

4 Select the style for citations Notice that you can select the “style” your citations will be presented in. APA is usually used for science classes, MLA for literacy.

5 Start your citations Click the Insert Citation button on the ribbon. Click Add New Source from the drop down window.

6 Select type of source When you clicked add new source, you’ll see a task window like this. Find the type of source you want to cite using the drop down menu.

7 Fill in all information from your source Fill in the blanks with the information from your source. Click OK to save the info. Repeat for all of your sources HINT: do this at the time you are using the source!

8 To change or correct information If you need to add to or correct an entry in your sources, click “Manage Sources” from the reference ribbon.

9 “Managing sources” A task window showing your sources will come up. Select the one you’d like to change and click Edit. Make your changes and click Close

10 Completing your works cited Click Bibliography from the ribbon. Select works cited (or bibliography- check with your teacher) (Or, click Insert Bibliography.)

11 What a “works cited” looks like your works cited (or bibliography) will be inserted where you have placed the curser in your document. If you see a mistake, use the undo arrow and revise using managing sources

12 Cool Tricks—Stuff that will help  Use tabbed browsing to go back and forth between multiple sources.  Keep your word document open but minimized so it’s easy to go back and forth between it and your electronic source.  Copy and paste citation information required directly from your source to the citation.

13 One more tool  How to check for the last time a web site was updated:  Go to the website  Type the following in the browser window: javascript:alert(document.lastModified)  A little window will pop up showing the date the site was last updated!
