7 Social Sustainability Definition?

8 Social Sustainability Definition  Social sustainability is: a positive condition created by particular social institutions and policies. The following features define the condition:  equity of access to key services (including health, education, transport, housing and recreation)  equity between generations, meaning that future generations will not be disadvantaged by the activities of the current generation  equity within generations, so that all sections of the community have access to the services described  a system of cultural relations in which the positive aspects of disparate cultures are valued and protected, and in which cultural integration is supported and promoted when it is desired by individuals and groups  the widespread participation of citizens not only in electoral procedures but also in other areas of political activity, particularly at a local level. 9 Social Sustainability Definition  There are two types or levels of resources in the community that are available to build social sustainability (and, indeed, economic and environmental sustainability) - individual or human capacity, and social or community capacity.  Individual or human capacity refers to the attributes and resources that individuals can contribute to their own well-being and to the well- being of the community as a whole. Such resources include education, skills, health, values and leadership.  Social or community capacity is defined as the relationships, networks and norms that facilitate collective action taken to improve upon quality of life and to ensure that such improvements are sustainable.  To be effective and sustainable, both these individual and community resources need to be developed and used within the context of four guiding principles - equity, social inclusion and interaction, security, and adaptability.
