4 Focus Question and Task  Your task is to undertake and explore a specific role/ point of view out of one of the 4 characters individually and complete two tasks.  Task one:Task two: Brainstorm ideas in your teams of two (groups of 4 break off into teams of 2) A debate over whether or not recycling should continue to be enforced within the town. Which will conclude with a letter back to the mayor with their final decision.

7 Role – Busy Mother  Team A – Against Recycling You’re a busy mother of four and you are always moving around after the children. You are against recycling because you find it is simply to difficult to add an extra chore to your list when you believe it is all going to the same place any way. You think recycling is a complete waste of your very valuable and sparing time. Goal – To successfully put yourself in the position of this character and argue this point of view using the attitude of this character while exploring why some people may think recycling is a waste of time. Research Aim – To successfully see the point of view that recycling is a waste of time and why they might believe that. Click on the bin for resources

9 Role – Marketing Person  Team A – Against Recycling  You’re in the marketing business and it just so happens that the product that you are marketing is non recyclable it is a bar of soap put in a bar soap box, your company has already made thousands of the product and they are ready to sell. You believe if the recycling rule is introduced then it may drop sales on the soap ad consumers will go for a more eco friendly soap.  Goal – To successfully undertake the role of this marketer and clearly get across their point of view. 11 Role – Recycling Plant Employee  Team B – For Recycling You’re a employee of the local Recycling plant and are keen to keep it running because you know how important it is to recycle and you don’t want to lose your job.  Goal – to understand the role of a recycling plant employee so they can properly undertake this role. 13 Role – City Council Worker  Team B – For Recycling  You’re a employee of the city council and you understand and realise how good recycling is for the sustainability of the environment. You realise that you have to make recycling to remain apart of the local community to be able to make a difference.  Goal – to persuade the other team into a compromise that won’t get rid of recycling all together and try to make it a routine thing.  Research Aim – To know the policies regarding recycling - Why we should recycle - What would happen if we didn’t recycle.
