8-13-15 DO NOW 1-4 Puke Mobile 1.Suppose an automobile is traveling along the autobahn. It travels 100km during the initial two hours & 120km during the second two hours. It stops for one hour because an unfortunate passenger has succumbed to motion sickness & projectile vomited all over the interior of the car. After the passenger cleaned up his mess, the automobile finished the trip by going 100km in 2 hours with the wretched stench of vomit lingering throughout the car. Draw a distance-time graph of the puke mobile’s motion. Use a ruler & impeccable neatness and accuracy to complete this prompt.

2. The slowest animal ever discovered was a crab found in the Red Sea. It traveled with an average speed of 5.70km/yr. How long would it take the crab to travel 100km? 3. Eric stands on the edge of the grand canyon & gleefully yodels down to the bottom. He hears his yodel echo back from the canyon floor 5.20s later. How deep is the canyon location? 4. Caitlin watched a thunderstorm from her apartment window. She sees the flash of a lighting bolt & begins counting seconds until she hears the clasp of thunder 10s later. How far away was is the lighting bolt in a)meters? b)kilometers?

5. It is now 10:29A.M., but when the bell rings at 10:30A.M. Eric will be late for Spanish class for the third time this week. He must get from one side of Sequoyah to the other by hurrying down three different hallways. He runs down the first hallway, a distance of 35.0m, at a speed of 3.50m/s. The second hallway is filled with students, and he covers its 48.0m length at an average speed of 1.20m/s. The final hallway is empty, and Eric sprints its 60.0m length at a speed of 5.00m/s. a)Does Eric make it to class on time or does he receive detention for bring late again? b)Draw a distance vs. time graph of the situation

6. On May 29, 2005, Danica Patrick was named the first female Inday500 Rookie of the Year after her 4 th place finish; the best Indy500 finish of any woman in the event’s history. Danica completed the race in a time of 3.174h. What was Danica’s average speed during the 500.0-mi race? NOTE: Generally the unit of ‘miles’ is not used in Physics. However the Indianapolis 500 is a race that is measured in miles, so the miles is appropriate here. Please be aware: the SI unit for distance is the meter & the SI unit for speed is m/s.

7. A torpedo fired from a submerged submarine is propelled through H 2O with a speed of 20.00m/s & explodes upon impact with a target 2000m away. If the sound of the impact is heard 101.4s after the torpedo was fired, what is the speed of sound in H 2O? {Because the torpedo is held at a constant speed by it propeller, the effect of water resistance can be neglected.)

8. If humans originated in Africa and migrated to other parts of the world, some time would be required for this to occur. At the modest rate of a mere one kilometer per year, how many centuries would it take for humans originating in Africa to migrate to China, some 10,000 kilometers away?

9. An airplane travels at a constant speed, relative to the ground of 900.0 km/h. a.How far has the airplane traveled after 2.0h in the air? b.How long does it take for the airplane to travel between City A & City B if the cities are 3240 km apart? c.If the second plane leaves 1h after the first & travels at 1200km/h, which flight will arrive at City B first?

10. A car is moving down a street at 55km/h. A child suddenly runs into the street. If it takes the driver 0.75s to react & apply the brakes, how many meters will the car have moved before it begins to slow down?
