Narrative Writing Your introduction should contain general comments leading up to the thesis statement.

Narrative Writing Your introductory paragraph will consists of THREE SENTENCES..... No more...no less!!

Narrative Writing Sentence 1: Your first sentence of your introduction will introduce your topic, your event, your moment, your “life changer.”

Narrative Writing Sentence 1 Example: When I was only eight years old, my home burnt to the ground after being hit by lightning.

Narrative Writing Sentence 1 YOUR TURN: Since your moment has already taken place, the whole essay will be in the PAST tense Introduce your moment Remember: ONE SENTENCE Example Sentence: When I was only eight years old, my home burnt to the ground after being hit by lightning.

Narrative Writing Sentence 2: This sentence will relay a connection or comparison to a character in ROTHMC.

Narrative Writing Sentence 2 Example: Like Stacey, I was forced to be the man of the house as my family started rebuilding our life.

Narrative Writing Sentence 2 YOUR TURN: Stay in the PAST tense Spell your character’s name correctly! Remember: ONE sentence

Narrative Writing Sentence 2 YOUR TURN: Follow this “sentence formula”: Like [insert character’s name], I was ___________________________________ ___________________________________. Example Sentence: Like Stacey, I was forced to be the man of the house as my family started rebuilding our life.

Narrative Writing Sentence 3: This is your THESIS statement. This sentence should reflect the “lesson learned” from your moment.

Narrative Writing Sentence 3 Example: This moment impacted my life making me who I am today by teaching me the importance of never giving up and valuing family.

Narrative Writing Sentence 3 YOUR TURN: Remember: (1) PAST tense and (2) only ONE sentence. Also, follow this “sentence formula”: This moment impacted my life making me who I am today by __________________ _________________________________ _________________________________. Example Sentence: This moment impacted my life making me who I am today by teaching me the importance of never giving up and valuing family.

Narrative Writing Your conclusion should summarize your main points and leave readers with something about which to think. Your conclusion paragraph will only have two sentences. Again, no more....no less!

Narrative Writing Sentence 1: This sentence will restate your moment. 1.Look back at Sentence 1 of your introduction. You need to convey this idea but in DIFFERENT WORDS. 2.Stay in the PAST tense. 3.Only ONE sentence.

Narrative Writing Sentence 1 Example: The night my house burned down was a Coming of Age moment because my life as I knew it was changed forevermore.

Narrative Writing Sentence 1 YOUR TURN: Follow this sentence formula: [Insert your moment] was a Coming of Age moment because _______________ _________________________________ _________________________________. Example Sentence: The night my house burned down was a Coming of Age moment because my life as I knew it was changed forevermore.

Narrative Writing Sentence 2: This is the LAST sentence of your whole essay, so it’s super important. This sentence should answer this question: What do you want to teach others?

Narrative Writing Sentence 2 Example: I realized that while material things can be replaced, my loving family cannot.

Narrative Writing Sentence 2 YOUR TURN: Remember, your sentence should be in the PAST tense, be only ONE sentence, and leave the reader with a final thought on which to reflect and maybe even apply to his or her own life. Example Sentence: I realized that while material things can be replaced, my loving family cannot.

Narrative Writing Look back over your graphic organizer! Each box represents ONLY one sentence; therefore, you should now have five sentences total--three in the introduction and only two in the conclusion.
