2 To perform calculations using Excel, select a box where you would like to show a calculation and start by typing = By typing =, you are asking Excel to perform a calculation, rather than just showing what you type in the box. To perform calculations using Excel, select a box where you would like to show a calculation and start by typing = By typing =, you are asking Excel to perform a calculation, rather than just showing what you type in the box.

3 To calculate the survival % of the copepods, you will need to divide the number of copepods that survived by the number you started with. Do this by:  After the = sign, select the box showing the number of copepods that survived  Then type the / sign, which is symbol for divide  Then select the box showing the original number of copepods  Your formula bar should read: =D8/C8  Press enter to perform the calculation To calculate the survival % of the copepods, you will need to divide the number of copepods that survived by the number you started with. 4 You can change the formatting of the figure from a decimal to a percentage by highlighting the box and clicking on the % symbol in the toolbar as shown above.

5 To calculate the average number of copepod figures, you can use a formula. Do this by:  Typing =average in the box where you want to perform the calculation  Then you will need to select the range that you wish to average  Open brackets by typing (  Then highlight / select the range of figures you wish to average by dragging your cursor  Once you have selected your range, close the brackets, by typing ) and press enter To calculate the average number of copepod figures, you can use a formula.
