To perform calculations using Excel, select a box where you would like to show a calculation and start by typing = By typing =, you are asking Excel to perform a calculation, rather than just showing what you type in the box. To calculate the survival % of the copepods, you will need to divide the number of copepods that survived by the number you started with. You can change the formatting of the figure from a decimal to a percentage by highlighting the box and clicking on the % symbol in the toolbar as shown above.

To calculate the average number of copepod figures, you can use a formula. You can apply a formula to multiple boxes, by selecting the bottom right hand corner of the box containing your formula. A black + will show. Then drag down to apply the formula to all relevant boxes. +
