4 + Sustainable Development and the Jamaican Diaspora Remittances represent 17% of GDP Diaspora tourism is 11-15%. More than 187 Diaspora organisations make significant contributions to Jamaica in healthcare, education, sports, business, investment and trade.

5 + Reversing the Brain Drain:South Africa An estimated 20 per cent of the country’s professionals left since 1995. The South African government targeted an estimated 100,000 professionals to fill positions in the teaching service, government and business since 2010.

9 + Mobilising Skills to Build Local Capacity/Create Jobs in Africa ‘Retour Aux Sources’ Programme Supporting Entrepreneurs and Enterprise Development in Africa (SEEDA) The programme has so far supported over 400 grassroots and informal businesses in Sierra Leone and Ghana.

10 + Migration in a Human Rights Framework (HLD Theme 2) Particular reference to the most vulnerable: women and children To prevent and combat smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons To ensure regular, orderly and safe migration.

11 + Human Trafficking Training of stakeholders in the region to identify and combat human trafficking-IOM In 2007, the U.S. Embassy in Belize gave a grant of US $80,000 to the Ministry of Human Development for an Anti-Trafficking in Persons Programme.

12 + Integration of Returned Migrants British funded programme to safely return, reintegrate and rehabilitate deportees returned from the UK back to Jamaica through the UK Reintegration and Rehabilitation Fund (RRF). The IOM’s Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Programme (VARRP). UNHCR provision of shelter to displaced people from Colombia. UNHCR offers weekly briefings for the new arrivals in San Lorenzo, Ecuador, which is the first point of entry for many.
