Smart Grid – Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE’s) Sustainability Transportation Category San Diego June 2014 Presented by Nathaniel C. Martin, C.E.M 1

Project Description The installation of 14 EVSE’s. The project was funded through a grant from DOE which was implemented by Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). 2

Project Description The funding requirements were to test the newly commercialized Smart Grid technology. Functional requirements: to confirm readiness for direct load control, energy monitoring, and interoperability. 3

Project Information Project completion date: July 2013 Project cost: $236,000 EVSE installation locations: Parking Lot 1, has 3 units Parking Structure 1, has 4 units Parking Structure 2, has 7 units 4

Project Description continued Sac State had a requirement to charge a fee for service for each charging event of the EVSE’s. Prerequisites: This project required development of a Demand Response Management System (DRMS) by SMUD. 5

Project Description continued Prerequisites continued: Sac State had to install a new Energy Management Control System (EMCS) New Electrical Metering equipment with communication capabilities over the campus Ethernet network 6
