Density Chapter 3 Lesson 1
2
Mass Mass is how much “stuff” is in something.
3
Volume Volume is how much space an object takes up. You can get volume by 1.Length X Width X Height 2.Displacement (for irregular objects)
4
Units Mass is measured in units such as grams (g), kilograms (Kg), or milligrams (mg) Volume is measured in units such as Liters (L) or milliliters (mL) or cubic centimeters (cm 3 ).
5
1 mL = 1 cm 3
6
Density Objects may have same mass, but they may occupy different volumes (and vice versa)! Density is how “compact” something is. Density is a ratio. Density = Mass/Volume
7
Density and Matter Density depends on 1.Mass of particles 2.Distance between the particles. Solid Liquid Gas
8
Density = Mass Volume D = M/V M D V Measured in kilograms per metre cubed (kg/m 3 ) Also g/cm 3 Density
