2 SFX Management Basics Thresholds – what is a threshold? 2 A threshold is a rule that determines whether or not something can appear on the SFX Menu. Examples: Publishers Weekly is available from 1997 to the present in EBSCOHost Academic Search Elite. Therefore if you’re requesting an article in Publishers Weekly it must be between those two dates in order for this target to appear on the SFX Menu To do a search in the library catalog you need a book title or a journal title or an ISSN or an ISBN. Therefore one of these pieces of information must be present in order for this target to appear on the SFX Menu

3 SFX Management Basics Thresholds – Two categories 3 Global Thresholds Provided to Ex Libris by database and ejournal providers Maintained and updated by Ex Libris Local Thresholds Reflects a library’s access to a particular resource Created and maintained by the library

4 SFX Management Basics Thresholds – different types 4 Date Threshold $obj->parsedDate(">=",1997,undef,undef) $obj->parsedDate(">=",1997,12,1) $obj->parsedDate(">=",1989,1,1) && $obj->parsedDate("<=",2005,17,4) Rolling Date Threshold $obj->timediff('<','3m') $obj->timediff('>','1y') Require an Attribute $obj->need('ISBN') $obj->need('@authLast')

5 SFX Management Basics Create a Threshold – search for titles 5 Search for a title: click Search Objects in the KBManager Fill out form to search

6 SFX Management Basics Create a Threshold – retrieve active portfolios 6 Click P to see Object Portfolios, then click Show Active

7 SFX Management Basics Create a Threshold – choose portfolio 7 Choose Portfolio to Edit, Click E

8 SFX Management Basics Create a Threshold – edit portfolio 8 Click the compose button at the bottom of the Local Threshold box

12 SFX Management Basics U/P Values – usernames/passwords 12 Some databases require username/password information (flag value) You can determine the format of the information to input using the Target Configuration Guide found on the ExLibris Documentation Portal Log in to: http://docs.exlibrisgroup.com/docportal/logon.phphttp://docs.exlibrisgroup.com/docportal/logon.php (ask SDLN for username/password) Choose SFX, then:

19 SFX Management Basics Proxy Servers 19 Input the proxy server’s information under: Administrator Tools Menu Configuration Proxy/Cross Ref Proxy Settings

21 SFX Management Basics Proxy Servers - use 21 Under Use Proxy, select one of the following options: Yes, if you want proxy support for all targets. Every target will be directed through the proxy server. No, if you want the browser to redirect to the original target URL, as usual. If you select this option, there will be no attempt to access the proxy server. Selective, if you want proxy support only for selected target URLs. If you select this option, only those targets whose Target Service Proxy option is selected will be directed through the proxy server.
