2 MetaLib User Interface Using MetaLib 2 MetaLib may be used at two different levels: guest users and logged on users. Guest users have limited access to the databases as well as minimal personalization privileges. Services not available to guest users either do not appear as options on the screen, or appear with a locked icon At any time during a session if the user logs on, all current work is retained and can then be saved.

3 MetaLib User Interface To access MetaLib 3 MetaLib may be accessed via the SDLN web site: www.sdln.net Click Search Databases

4 MetaLib User Interface To access MetaLib 4 Type your search terms in the box and click Go:

5 MetaLib User Interface To access MetaLib 5 At this screen, if you are outside the library, you must login by clicking the padlock

6 MetaLib User Interface To access MetaLib 6 Enter your library card barcode, password, select home library from the dropdown list, click Login:

7 MetaLib User Interface Quick Search 7 Once logged in, you will see the Quick Search page

8 MetaLib User Interface Quick Sets 8 Clicking a Quick Set name opens a window displaying the resources in the set, a short description of the Quick Set, and the number of databases included. Each resource name is hyperlinked to its native Web interface. In addition, clicking the INFO button next to a resource displays a description of the resource.

9 MetaLib User Interface Select Quick Set 9 The search defaults to using the Newspaper quick set, select the set you want to search

10 MetaLib User Interface Click Go to search 10 After selecting the General Quick Set, click Go to search

11 MetaLib User Interface Quick Search Summary 11 The Quick Search Summary page appears during the execution of a Quick Search and updates the user with the ongoing status of the search

12 MetaLib User Interface Results list – Table View 12 Records are presented in a tabular format, including ranking Relevance, Author, Title, Year, and Database Name.

13 MetaLib User Interface Results list – Brief View 13 Record fields are displayed in citation format

14 MetaLib User Interface Results list – Full view 14 A single full record displays on the page

15 MetaLib User Interface Icons in Full view 15 Add to Basket Allows you to add the document to your own basket Save Record Allows you to save the document on your computer Send To Allows you to email the document View Original Format Provides the original machine readable record for the document

16 MetaLib User Interface Extending the retrieved result set 16 MetaLib retrieves the first 30 records from each database. If you wish to extend this initial set, click “retrieve more” on the tool bar. The system fetches another bulk of records, resorts the extended sets, and displays them on the screen.

18 MetaLib User Interface Topics and Facets 18 Also, in Table and Brief view, you will see Topics and Facets, including: Topics Authors Journal Titles Databases Subjects You can narrow your search using these links.

27 MetaLib User Interface Find Database – using Locate 27 The Locate function allows the user to search for databases by specifying values for title, vendor, or any word. Category and file type options also exist.

28 MetaLib User Interface Find Database by Category 28 You can also choose databases by category, Select a category and click GO

29 MetaLib User Interface Find e-Journal 29 You can also search for individual journal titles. Selecting find e-journal takes the user to the SFX A-Z list. Searches can be performed for all e-journals within the statewide databases.

30 MetaLib User Interface MetaSearch 30 MetaSearch allows the user to select databases they wish to search. MetaSearch provides options to search Quick Sets, My Databases (if you have saved databases), Categories or Locate.

44 MetaLib User Interface History 44 To view History, click My Space, History Queries can be reactivated by: clicking the query clicking the databases that were searched define the query as an Alert or remove the query from the list

45 MetaLib User Interface Preferences 45 The user can set search preferences which will be saved from session to session. Preferences that can be defined include: Default views for database lists and result lists Number of results per page Language will always be English Portal will be the library you logged into
