6. Unit 11A Vocabulary presume - v. to think that something is true without being certain  My friend came to class and he was all wet. I presumed it was raining outside. visualize - v. to create an image using your mind or brain  When I am stressed, I visualize a comfortable bed/a beach vacation. transform - v. to change something completely  I transformed my bedroom by changing the style.  Caterpillars transform into butterflies.  The colors of leaves in the fall transform. entity -n. something that exists separately from other things  There were several entities present at the meeting. reinforce -v. to strengthen something by giving it support  The police reinforced the case by giving additional evidence.  I reinforce my cell phone by using a protective cover.

Unit 11A welfare - n. well-being, health, comfort, happiness  The government should be concerned about the people’s welfare. flexible -adj. easily bent or adjusted without breaking  Leather and some metals like aluminum are flexible.  People can be flexible  Schedules can be flexible underlying -v. to lie beneath something  A lot of music has an underlying message perspective -n. a point of view or particular way of thinking about something  There are different perspectives about soccer around the world. accomplish -v. to succeed in doing something that is a goal or aim  I accomplished my goal of finishing my degree.

Unit 11B Vocabulary acknowledge – v. to accept or admit that something is true  The teacher acknowledge the student’s answer. primitive – adj. very simple; belonging to an earlier period of time or development  Some people think that flip phones are primitive. reveal – v. to show or make people aware of something  After the test, the teacher revealed the answers.  I bothered my friend, and she revealed her secret. master – v. to become highly skilled in doing something  I mastered the family business.  I mastered 12 languages.  Master’s degree abstract – adj. theoretical, not related to real things  Love is an abstract emotion.  Music and art are abstract concepts.

Unit 11B pronounce – v. to say something using particular sounds extraordinary – adj. having an extremely special or unusual quality  Niagara Falls is an extraordinary place.  Venice is an extraordinary city.  The Smoky Mountains are extraordinary. humble – adj. modest and respectful, not too proud dismiss – v. to send someone away or to reject something or someone  The teacher dismissed the class.  The university dismissed the student. simulate – v. to pretend to do something under artificial conditions  Rides at theme parks often simulate other activities.
