 There are 10 units in AP Physics 1. These units will be completed before the AP Exam. AP Exam for AP physics1 is on Tuesday, May 3 rd, 2016.  Visit https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/apcourse/a p-physics-1 for more details https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/apcourse/a p-physics-1

- Kinematics in one-dimension: Constant velocity and uniform accelerated motion. - Vectors: vector components and resultant - Kinematics in two-dimensions: Projectile motion

-Forces, types and representation (FBD) -Newton’s First Law, Newton’s Third Law, -Newton’s Second Law and Applications of Newton’s Second Law -Friction -Interacting Objects: Ropes and pulleys

-Uniform circular motion and Dynamics of uniform circular motion -Universal Law of Gravitation

- Work, Power, Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy - Gravitational and Elastic, COE

-Impulse, Momentum, COM, Elastic and inelastic collisions

- Linear restoring forces and simple harmonic motion. - Simple harmonic motion graphs. - Simple pendulum and Mass-spring systems

- Torque, Center of mass - Rotational kinematics, Rotational dynamics and rotational inertia, Rotational energy - Angular momentum and Conservation of angular momentum

- Traveling waves, Wave characteristics - Sound, Superposition, Standing waves on a string, Standing sound waves

- Electric charge and conservation of charge, Electric force: Coulomb’s Law

- Electric resistance, Ohm’s Law, DC circuits, Series & parallel circuits, Kirchhoff’s Laws

 We will be doing lots of experiments/labs to solidify the concepts.  Problem solving will occur throughout the chapter.  Expect homework to be assigned at least three days per week.  Quizzes, tests and quarter exams.

 30% Formative Assessment This includes class-work, home-work and labs. Most units will include all the above.  70% Summative Assessment  This includes quizzes, tests and exams. Quizzes or tests will be given at the end of each chapter/unit.  Usually two (or three) quarter exams and one semester exam will be given per semester.  All the tests and exams will get an AP curve. To earn the curve on the tests, they will be expected to do test corrections.  No test corrections for exams, but students still get the curve.

- Part of success in any area is to recognize when you need help. To recognize what you do not know and get help. - I have asked my students to be proactive and try to come in before school, after school and/or during my prep and lunch.
