 In 1998, the American Stroke Association was created as a division of the American Heart Association to intensify efforts on behalf of Stroke Survivors and Caregivers. Activities include:  Teaching families warning signs of stroke  Funding research to find new ways to prevent stroke  Developing guidelines for physicians to treat stroke  Providing stroke survivors and their families a place to get answers after stroke. http://www.strokeassociation.org http://www.strokeassociation.org

Why a Support Group??  Life after stroke is a HUGE adjustment and affects not just the patient but also family members.  Simple things like shopping, writing, talking on the phone and driving are some of the day-to-day activities that become obstacles to not just the survivors but also the family.

Stroke Survivors and their caregivers need help adjusting to the changes in their lives. Support groups offer survivors, their caregivers and other family members a chance to share their concerns and support each other. They share common experiences, find positive solutions and celebrate successes.

Stroke Survivors and families cannot benefit from a Support Group if none exist!

To meet the needs of our Stroke patients and their caregivers, CHH has formed:

From that night forward….  Have scheduled speakers that the group has requested  Have scheduled fun activities including BINGO, Christmas party etc  Have connected families who are forming friendships and support to each other

From one of our members “ It is so nice to come together with people who may be facing the same challenges we are. We are hoping that we can be a help to others who may have some of the same struggles we have and that in turn they can help us with our struggles.” FP FP
