The Inverse of Squaring What’s the opposite operation to addition? SUBTRACTION What’s the opposite operation to multiplication? DIVISION The opposite operation to squaring a number is taking the SQUARE ROOT. To take the square root of a number is the INVERSE operation (the opposite) of squaring a number.
