1. What and when was the Neolithic Revolution? What were two important discoveries that brought on the Neolithic Revolution? The Neolithic Revolution was when people became food producers. It was 8,000 BC. Two important discoveries were growing food and herding animals.

In your own words, describe the difference between food gathers and food producers. Food gathers: -hunters -collected food (gathered such as berries, seeds, fruit) -moved from place to place -lived in bands Food Producers: -made their own food, herders-specializations -stay in one place (villages)-religion, government

What were the two effects of increased food supply during the Neolithic Age? The two results was that the population began to grow, and people lived longer.

Where have the earliest known villages been found? Name the three mentioned in our textbook, including the location. The earliest known villages have been found in southwestern Asia. The first is Jericho in the west bank between Israel and Jordan The next is Abu Hureyra found Syria. The last is Catal Huyuk which is found in Turkey. (has the remains that can be studied by scientists)

Describe a normal Neolithic Village. Flat roofs No doors, entrance on the roof Sun dried mud bricks floors were grass with sleeping platforms (mats) houses crowded together on side of a hill open courtyard veggie gardens Apple orchards and wheat fields ovens for making bread pastures for sheep and cattle and other animals

What is specialization, and what caused it to start? List some occupations that were available during the Neolithic period. Specialization is the development of occupations. Result of increased food supply because people had time to do other things. Some of them were potters, weavers, and metal workers.

Do Now: 1.Take out homework and get journal 2.Why do you think the Neolithic Age is referred to as a Revolution? Definition of Revolution: A sudden or momentous (great) change in a situation. A great turning point.

Why were the first governments formed? List the responsibilities of the Neolithic chief. Government was developed in order to protect the land of the people. They set boundaries for the land, and also passed onto their children. They depended on their land, so they had to protect it. The chief settled disputes and directed village activities. They were also the priests of the villages. Handled religious duties and offered prayers.
