Continuation and improvement of the NRT system for the remotely sensed data Task 1.1 Emanuele Böhm, Roberto Sciarra & Rosalia Santoleri Satellite Oceanography Group (GOS) Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC-Rome) Italian National Research Council (CNR) ADRICOSM-EXTension Final meeting 20-21 November 2006 Roma e.bohm@isac.cnr.it, r.sciarra@isac.cnr.it, r.santoleri@isac.cnr.it

Subtask 1.1.1 Sea Surface Temperature http://gos.ifa.rm.cnr.it Reprocess Adricosm color data (1.1.2) Reprocess SST for atmospheric studies (1.1.3) New OC-derived parameters (1.1.2) Scatterometer data for meteo sensitivity (1.1.3) Training (1.1.1, 1.1.2)

The GOS website and its contribution to Adricosm

SeaWiFS Real Time Images No more available since 23 December 2004

The GOS website and its contribution to Adricosm Png Image MODIS/Aqua Chlorophyll concentration MODIS/Aqua Flags 15 September 2005 Supplied as soon as are made available by NASA (Tipically 2, 3 days of delay) NRT Production with meteorological ancillary data

The GOS website and its contribution to Adricosm 15 September 2005 Png Image MODIS/Aqua Chlorophyll concentration AVHRR/NOAA17 SST Real-Time acquisition Rome Ground Station

The GOS website and its contribution to Adricosm DATA Access for: SST on AREG Grid SeaWiFS on AREG Grid RTRT NRT Offline production of Optimal Interpolated SST +

The GOS website and its contribution to Adricosm

Contribution to Adricosm and to Adricosm-EXT SST daily products for the Adriatic Sea SST data (AVHRR) on AREG model grid gif images of SST at 1 km resolution Ocean Color daily products for the Adriatic Sea Chlorophyll data (SeaWiFS) on AREG model grid gif images of SeaWiFS chlorophyll at 1 km resolution gif images of SeaWiFS case I / case II / clouds masks 0101 1001 0101 1001 ADRICOSM ADRICOSM-EXT AVHRR on AREG GRID Operational OI SST on AREG GRID AVHRR png image at 1 km MODIS png image at 1 km Chlorophyll data (MODIS) on AREG GRID Png image of MODIS Chlorophyll 1 km Png image of MODIS Flags 1 km Png image of MODIS Water Clarity K(490) 1 km High Resolution SST data distribution Historical SeaWiFS web images implementation New NEW

The Adricosm-EXT Satellite portal New Products New Datasets Need of a complete reorganization of the data set and of the Fast Delivery System (FDS) Different Possible solutions The most efficient will be chosen GOS/Adricosm web site Upgrade OR GOS/Adricosm Live Access Server Time for Setting up the portal (and the FDS!) is critical

A possible solution : the GOS/Adricosm web upgrade Diffuse Attenuation Coeeficient K(490) Sea Surface Temperature

MODIS K(490) MODIS SST MODIS True Color A possible solution : the GOS/Adricosm web upgrade Modis Chlorophyll and Flags web images are Already on-line Update of the historical SeaWiFS web gallery images Addition of the new products in the web gallery

A possible solution : the GOS/Adricosm web upgrade High Resolution MODIS True Color 250 m Data Collection Quality control Resampling Merging Map Projection From 1 to 2.8 GB disk space per day 2 to 5.6 GB per day Aqua+Terra 60 to 168 GB per month

A possible solution : the GOS/Adricosm web upgrade The bow-tie panoramic distorsion in MODIS Before correction After correction

A possible solution : the GOS/Adricosm web upgrade DATA Access with password for: Historical SeaWiFS on AREG grid Data access without password for: Modis Chlorophyll on AREG grid Optimal Interpolated SST(AREG) +

Another possible solution: LAS MODIS–Aqua: Near-Real-Time maps AVHRR–NOAA 17/18: Near-Real-Time maps

The Adricosm-EXT LAS for Satellite data MODIS-Aqua: Near-Real-Time maps Maps of Chlorophyll “a” concentration at full resolution (1 km) Maps of Diffuse attenuation coefficient K(490) (1 km) Maps of Sea Surface Temperature (1 km) Maps of Chlorophyll “a” concentration binned on the AREG model grid < Back Next >

The Adricosm-EXT LAS for Satellite data AVHRR–NOAA 17/18: Near-Real-Time maps Sea Surface Temperature binned on the AREG model grid Optimal Interpolated Sea Surface Temperature binned on the AREG model grid Sea Surface Temperature at high resolution < Back Next >

The Adricosm-EXT LAS for Satellite data MODIS-Aqua: Near-Real-Time maps Maps of Chlorophyll “a” concentration

The Adricosm-EXT LAS for Satellite data MODIS-Aqua: Near-Real-Time maps Maps of Chlorophyll “a” concentration 43.6 N 17.8 E 42.8 N 15.9 E

Conclusions The most efficient solution will be chosen considering time, costs and user requirements Whatever will be the solution chosen for the data distribution, a complete reorganization of the FDS architecture is needed. We will consider other possible solutions that could differ from those already shown or that could be a combination of those shown always Assuring the quality and the distribution of the products required by the project
