The Reading Questions There are four different types of reading questions in the exams

Reading Question Type One Example: (Summary) 2 Technology allows publishers to create CD’s of their textbooks, which are usually much cheaper than a book, because there is no need for paper, printing and binding. However, the technology to use the CD can cost students a lot of money, because they need to own a laptop to use it. Yet, one big advantage of every student buying a laptop is that they will then have access to standard software. With this software they can complete homework assignments and use the internet to do research. Q. Which is the best summary of paragraph 2? a.publishers want to make money from students b.using technology can be expensive for students c.every student must own an expensive laptop The correct answer is B.

Reading Question Type Two Example: (Specific Details) 3 Ease of use is another factor to be considered. With a wireless network in place, students can access online sources from almost anywhere in the school or university. Students do not need to rely on books in the library to complete assignments. In addition, teachers may find themselves changing their method of teaching to best make use of the technology. However, for educational institutions to best use laptops, it is really important that technological support is constantly available. This support is needed to help both teachers and students, to maintain the equipment and to make sure that the wireless network is working efficiently. Q. What is needed to make sure laptops are used effectively? (paragraph 3) a. that teachers and students should look after their computers b. that librarians use the technology so students can do research c. that help is available in case the technology goes wrong The correct answer is C.

Reading Question Type Three Example: (paraphrase) Which of the sentences below is closest in meaning to the highlighted sentence in paragraph 2? 2 When the economy is doing badly, competition for jobs becomes much more difficult because of a higher rate of unemployment. a. Higher rates of employment occur when an economy does badly and this makes it much easier to find a job. b. An improving economy is the result of higher rates of unemployment which makes it impossible to find any job. c. A poor economy results in many people being out of work and makes it much harder for them to find a job. The correct answer is C.

Reading Question Type Four Example: (reference words) 4 It is a general tendency for people to believe that motivation is a personal trait. Some people have it and others don’t. In practice, some people are labelled as lazy because they do not display an outward sign of motivation. However, individuals differ in their basic motivational drives. It also depends upon their areas of interest. ‘It’ refers to… (paragraph 1) a. motivation b. trait c. people The correct answer is A.
