Hope you like it!!!! By Bella Matter ☁
2
Introduction What is Matter? Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. Mass is the amount of matter that takes up an object. There are 3 states of matter they are the Solid, Liquid and gas. Scientists identify matter by their properties. The States of Matter are Solid Liquid and gas Can you teach me about them?
3
Solid Definite shape Fixed size Made of particles Packed together tightly Particles vibrate
4
Liquid No definite shape- takes the shape of a container Fixed size Made of particles Particles move more slowly Particles move more freely than a solid
5
No definite shape- retakes the shape of anything No fixed size Made of particles Particles move fast Particles move free GAS ☁
6
Properties A property is a characteristic of something that you can observe. Examples of the properties of matter include color, texture, shape, size, and hardness. Properties of matter!!
7
Perimeter Volum e Are a
8
AREA Area is a measurement that describes the number of unit squares that cover a surface. Length XX Width
9
PERIMETER Perimeter is measuring the distance around an object. P= add all 4 sides
10
Volume describes how much space an object takes up. Length XX Width X Hight V=LxWxH
11
The 3 r's The 3 r's With Density And Weight.
12
Reduce To reduce means to not use as much. Some toys are so small that the package is so big. Reduce!!!!
13
Reuse To reuse is to use something again instead of throwing it away.
14
Recycle Recycle To recycle means to use something again. You can recycle things like paper glass or plastic. Our recycling numbers are 1,2,4,5 and 7 Recycle Recycle
15
Density Density is the amount of matter in a given space. It describes how tightly packed matter is
16
Weight Weight is the pull of gravity between an object and Earth.
17
ELEMENTS OF MATTER With Some Other Facts
18
ELEMENTS The elements are the building blocks of matter Made up of only one type of matter Examples: gold, silver, and oxygen
19
ATOMS Atoms of one element are all alike Smallest particles
20
MIXTURE Each type keeps its original properties Examples:mixed vegetables, salt water and grape juice A solution is a mixture that is blended completely It is two or more types of matter combined Can be separated 1 sort by picking 2 filter 3 evaporation
21
ALLOY An alloy is mixing metal with another element can make it stronger A mixture of two or more elements- one must be metal
22
COMPOUND Examples: salt, sugar, and rust Each elements loses its property when combined Forms when two or more elements are combined chemically
23
PHYSICAL CHANGE Change in size + shape Change in texture Change in position Change in state The mass of the object stays the same Begins and ends with the same type of matter Heat energy and the loss of heat energy causes matter to change state 4 types
24
CHEMICAL CHANGE The new matter has properties different the the matter you started with Changes in matter it self ( starts with one kind of matter and ends with another) Involves energy either takes in or gives off energy Example: penny + vinegar vapor= copper acetate
25
Hope you learned a lot!!! Remember keep practicing matter! Keep practicing Measuring Matter! Keep practicing Measuring Matter! Keep practicing the three R's! Keep practicing weight and density! Keep practicing Elements of Matter
