100 Homes Project First Year Results November 2011
2
Why 100 Homes? Household energy consumption is responsible for 27 per cent of all carbon emissions. In Britain we use more energy per home than Sweden which is 7°C colder Energy prices: Why Muswell Hill? Because we are comparatively environmentally conscious and we are affluent (big footprint but can pay for energy saving measures) Prices have nearly doubled since 2003 and OFGEM predict that bills could rise by up to 60% by 2020
3
Survey responses Of the 50 households that completed a baseline survey, 31 provided updates at the end of the first year Of these 31, we received detailed energy data for 26 households For the remaining 5, we got data on measures that they had implemented only
4
How does First Year emissions compare to baseline? Overall carbon footprint reduced by 16% Emissions from Air Travel reduced by 35% Emissions from Car Travel reduced by 26% Emissions from Gas and electricity use reduced by 2% NOTES: DATA SHOWN FOR 26 HOUSEHOLDS WHO PROVIDED FULL DATA 2010 was the coldest year since 1987 with 15% more home energy used compared to average year National average: 13.0 tonnes CO2 annually 100 Homes Baseline: 15.9 tonnes CO2 annually 100 Homes First Year: 13.6 tonnes CO2 annually
