3 Olga Denti  We use there is (singular)/there are (plural) to mean that something is present (c’è, ci sono) Examples:  There is a white car on this road. It’s a sports car.  There are some new shoes for you. They are here.

4 Olga Denti  We use there was (singular)/there were (plural) to mean that something was present (c’era, c’erano) Examples:  There was a big buffalo on the side of the road.  There were some beautiful flowers in that garden.

I’m sorry, Tania can’t come to the phone. She has/is having a bath. 5. Look at that man! He dances/He’s dancing in the street. 6. On Friday nights we watch/are watching a video. 7. I don’t usually go/I’m not usually going to school by train. 8. What do you read/are you reading? It’s a letter from Sonia. Do you want to read it?

11 Olga Denti  After reading the postcard on p. 73, write a postcard to your friend describing a city you like and your experience.
