1 Annual Meeting, June 15-16 2015, Istanbul, Turkey EMODnet Chemistry Partner contribution: HCMR/HNODC WP1: Data collection and metadata compilation in sea regions: current status

2 Annual Meeting, June 15-16 2015, Istanbul, Turkey General overview of the HMCR’s contribution: Current status (April 2015) SeawaterSedimentBiota Number of CDIs at beginning: 326862 Number of CDIs at year 1: + 1324 Number of CDIs at year 2: + 900 Total number of CDIs (Mediter. & Black Sea) 549262 Note 1: For Seawater the number of CDIs is for bottles not CTDs or Buoys (oxygen)

6 Annual Meeting, June 15-16 2015, Istanbul, Turkey Difficulties encountered: Some datasets cannot be processed because the corresponding metadata are missing Missing P01 and P09 labels from the elements/compounds result in delay of data processing. Different methods of analysis along the decades demand different P01 and P09 labels increasing the time for processing Not uniform units among datasets for the same chemical elements/compounds increase the time of processing In some cases, there is a mismatch between the reported datasets and the actual scientist holdings (a time-consuming procedure to find these data)

7 Annual Meeting, June 15-16 2015, Istanbul, Turkey Spatial distribution of HNODC’s CDIs uploaded during the 2nd year 2 nd Year Metals in Seawater 15 stations 783 CDIs from 1985 to 2009 Fertilizers, Silicates, Organic matter and Chlorophyll in Seawater
