Efficient and effective global flows of data to accommodate in-country development of GFOI recommended Forest Map products. Global coverage with consistent information products to improve efficiency, consistency and accuracy in the production of GFOI recommended Forest Map products

3 www.gfoi.org SDCG-6 Oslo, Norway October 22-24, 2014 Global annual coverages by 2017 of the world’s forested areas In 2015, expand global baseline coverage to 78 countries – GFOI Participating Countries, UN-REDD National Programme and Partner Countries, WB-FCPF Participating and Partner Countries, CD- REDD Project Countries (BMU) Coverage by Landsat and Sentinel-1 for 2015 – Early engagement with CBERS-4 and Sentinel-2 mission planners and scientists By 2017, full, 127 country, global coverage – Coverage by Sentinel-1 and -2, and Landsat – Regional coverage by CBERS-4 – On request coverage by non-core tasking missions Encourage non-core data providers to release older low value data to serve as baseline

Appropriate specification of requirements? Sufficient infrastructure? By 2017, implement operational processes and tools – Flexible solutions given capacity and requirements Tasking and restricted access/distribution data – Tiered solution: space agencies => national partners space agencies => data brokers/expert partners => national partners – Tiered mechanism: physical media, direct downloads, data brokerage through expert partners observational data, information products, cloud solutions

5 www.gfoi.org SDCG-6 Oslo, Norway October 22-24, 2014 Global coverage with consistent information products Information algorithms/processes and products – Derived observation products, such as Surface Reflectance, band pass corrected, composited – Indices such as Vegetation or Soil indices – Classed data: such as land cover, surface water extent or forest cover Coordinate directly with information product developers – USGS: surface reflectance, indices – NASA: Web Enabled Landsat Data, Global Forest Change – JAXA: ALOS-2 forest/non-forest map – European Forestry TEP, – K&C – Congo Basin Initiative Space agencies recognize that information products derived from measurement data increase the productivity of resource managers and scientists – Early engagement with CBERS-4 and Sentinel-2a mission planners and scientists – Monitor the evolution of pixel-based tile (data cube) systems – Encourage space agencies to coordinate the specifications of information products to increase the interoperability of the products Integration of information product initiatives into GFOI data flows
