2 Big Idea Rounding is an important skill in math and every day life. Rounding makes numbers easier to work with. It’s a lot easier to work with values when they have values rounded to the nearest ten, hundred, or whatever.

3 Sing the Rounding Song If you’re rounding to the thousands, check the hundreds. If the hundreds are zero through four, round it down to the thousands before. If you’re rounding to the thousands, check the hundreds. If the hundreds are five through nine, round it up, and you’ll be fine. If you’re rounding to the thousands, check the hundreds.

4 Let’s Practice Directions: Round the four-digit number to the 1000s place. Example: 2,456- if you’re rounding to the thousands look at the hundreds place. The 4 tells the two to stay the same. 2,456 rounds to 2,000
