2 What is CORE/FLEX? 25 Minute Intervention Period 3 or 4 times per week that occurs between 2 nd and 3 rd periods A mandatory academic support time for failing students (CORE) A flexible chunk of time for students meeting our expectation for learning (FLEX) Counting On Reaching Excellence

3 Who is eligible for CORE/FLEX? Fall Eligibility 9 th Grade10 th Grade11 th Grade12 th Grade -Based on Spring Semester grades -All 9 th graders-All D/F students -First evaluation at the end of the month -Grades evaluated each month Other Info: We reevaluate and move students in and out of Core every month We use Skyward to support our data and schedule changes We do not change Core placements until the conclusion of each month

CORE Student ResponsibilitiesFLEX Student Responsibilities -Attend Core Time-Use the time according to personal needs -Work to improve grades-Attend Tutor Centers -Track and make-up missing/late work-Serve as Peer Mentors -Attend Tutor Centers-Attend a Study Hall -Organizational/study strategies support-Attend PE make-up or Open Gym -Eat Breakfast -Attend available seminars CORE Student RewardsFLEX Student Rewards -Focused assistance-Additional “undirected” time -Access to peer tutoring-Specialized assistance -Additional “directed” time-Community Outreach hours -Elective credit

CORE Teacher Responsibilities FLEX Teacher Responsibilities -Academic support for students -Tutor students -Supervise assigned Core students -Provide extended learning opportunities -Work with student peer coaches -Assist with supervision -Organizational/study strategies curriculum (9 th grade only) -Other Other Info: We’ve worked hard to address staff equity and consistency Everyone must be involved in order for this to work.
